But, your academic success largely revolves around goal setting. Here are 10 academic goals you can set to help you navigate your academic journey:
10 Academic Goals To Set For University:
1. Get Organized
Having to juggle around academic duties and other life responsibilities like a part-time job or having to cook for yourself, it makes time-management extra important for university students.
Without proper organizational skills, students could become overwhelmed, which is why it becomes crucial to be organized by improving your time management skills.
2. Take Notes In Class & Review Them
I once had a professor who didn’t post any of our lecture slides after class, meaning that we had to rely solely on our notes for exams and quizzes. Surprisingly, my grade for that class was even higher than some of my other classes.
Taking notes in class allows you to pay better attention and avoid drifting away doing other things like scrolling through your phone or playing games. More importantly, some of the key points are often mentioned but not written on lecture slides.
And by reviewing your notes each time after class, it helps keep your memory fresh, encoding the materials into a deeper level of memories.
3. Maintain A Strong GPA
A strong GPA indicates that you’re getting good grades and excelling in your classes. It also makes you stand out more in the job market and increase the likelihood of you getting into graduate school.
4. Get Involved & Join A Club
University is a great place to make connections and expand your network. Get involved by joining a club of your interest or even start one yourself.
5. Improve Financial Management
University is a stepping stone to the ‘real world’ where money is unavoidable, start small by gaining your financial knowledge by reading books and budgeting your expenses.
Build up your financial habits that will lead to financial freedom and budget your money with the 50-30-20 budgeting rule.
6. Explore New Subject For Fun
Knowledge is never ending, there is always more to learn even if you think you have mastered it. Find something that sparks your interest and do research on it. In an era of technology, there are many free resources you can get online.
Never stop learning and always carry a mind of wonder. Your chosen subject could be anything you like and it doesn’t have to necessarily be tied to your academic pursuit.
7. Attend Every Lecture & Tutorial
I think it’s pretty obvious why you should not skip class and attend every lecture and tutorial, but in case you need some motivation, just think about the tuition you have paid to be in school, you wouldn’t want the money to go in waste, just make the most out of it.
8. Make Use Of Every Resource Available
Your tuition fee covers not only the lectures and tutorials you attend but also the resources you can get from your school. Dive deep into your university website and see what they have for you. Here are some of the possible ones that can be found commonly among various universities.
9. Journal Everyday
Maintain selfcare by journaling everyday for 5 minutes, simply write down something you are grateful for. If you want, you can even take things to the next level by creating a self care routine.
10. Practice Affirmation
I have always been a big fan of affirmation practice, it helps me to focus on my intention and visualize them.
The ultimate guide of affirmation practice has helped me through the process of it.
