The Ultimate Guide To Affirmations Practice (with examples)
This post is all about affirmations practice.
What Is Affirmations Practice?
Affirmations Practice is a way of positive talking and self-empowerment. By reciting affirmations, it allows the positivity to stay in your subconsciousness, fostering a kind of illusion to your brain and changing the way you perceive things in the world.
Scientific researches have been done to prove that affirmations practice suggests a strong connection between the mind and the body, allowing us to control moral outcomes and response reflectively with our self-efficacy, according to the self-affirmation theory.
Step-By-Step Guide To Affirmations Practice:
Get some pens and papers! Follow along the following steps to start practicing affirmations today and watch your life change!
Step 1: Identifying Your Area Of Improvements
Think about what aspects of your life you are not satisfied with at this current moment. Is it family? Friendship? Spirituality? Finances? Health? Work? Or Play?
With your chosen aspect to focus on for the affirmations practice, you can then set your intentions or goals that you have for that specific aspect you chose to focus on.
For example: I am not satisfied with my finances right now.
My intentions or goals for this aspect might look something like these:
• To keep track on my expenses
• To have a budget for each month
• Less impulsive buying and more saving
Step 2: Creating Your Personalized Affirmations
Now that you know what you want to improve on, it’s time to make your affirmations practice come into life. Typically affirmations follow a pattern and my favourite ones are those that start with the phrase: “I am”
What I love about this phrase is that not only does it start with the first person point of view, but it is also in the present tense.
Meaning that it is extra effective in immersing yourself in the situation, thus, tricking your brain into thinking that you already are at the state of what you are saying in your affirmation practice.
Always remember, an affirmation should focus on what you want and not what you don’t want. You should use positive language for the best outcome when it comes to affirmation practice. Take a look at the following example:
Looking back at the intentions we set for our financial aspect, we might create the following affirmation:
"I am smart with my money, I spend only on the things I need."
See how the affirmation starts with the phrase "I am" and that it solely focus on what I want?
Here’s an example of what you should not do when creating your own affirmation:
"I am not spending impulsively, I do not spend money on things that I want but don't need."
This affirmation conveys the same idea with the previous one, but doesn't it feel 'not right'?
That is because the affirmation focus on what you do not want to make, which is the complete opposite of what you should do when it comes to affirmation practice.
Step 3: Practice Daily
Review your affirmations daily for the best result. Ideally, you would recite them once in the morning and once before bed. The goal is to make these affirmations into your subconsciousness, tricking your brain into thinking that you are living your ideal life.
Step 4: Check In & Refresh
As you continue your journey in affirmations practice, read them out loud and try playing with different versions. It is completely normal for your affirmations to change and evolve overtime.
As you get a better sense of what works best for you, you will find the ‘magic’ with affirmations practices. Affirmations are just one way to help you to achieve what you want in life and they are an excellent tool in personal transformation.
Affirmations practice is such a fun way to work towards your goals in life. I hope you enjoyed creating your own personalized affirmations following this step-by-step guide.
